Chief Assessment Officer at ACT
John Weiner

How would you briefly describe your current role and primary areas of expertise?

I currently serve as Chief Assessment Officer at ACT and also advise organizations working in the assessment space. My expertise sits at the intersection of assessment, research, strategy, and technology applications, with a particular focus on AI and its ethical, responsible use in assessment.

What are one or two key experiences or areas of research/practice that have shaped your work?

One formative experience was serving as Chief Science Officer for a large global assessment services company (PSI), where I led departments providing high-stakes assessment across professional licensure and certification, educational admissions, talent assessment and development, and English language testing.

I have also led assessment research and content teams through organizational and process transformations, shaped R&D roadmaps, and represented assessment strategy at the C-level as part of broader growth and competitiveness efforts.

What interests you most about the topic of connection in the workplace (or Connection Intelligence more broadly)?

I am especially interested in how connection can be measured and in the actionable insights those measures can offer individuals and organizations. I see them as a valuable complement to traditional indicators such as culture, job satisfaction, and engagement—measures that may be less sufficient on their own in today’s AI-disrupted workplace. I am keen to see how bringing connection into that mix can help organizations not just adapt but thrive in a fast-changing world.
